In Germany a large number of institutes are studying lake sediments and comparable climatic archives in different ways.
A department of the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) in Potsdam is dealing with climate dynamics, maares and lakes (link) and runs several drill equipment for shallow lake sediment drilling (link).
