In modern sciences data are not just gained individually but also published, secured and made available for a long-term. This includes fast record retrieval via internet-based searchable access on different criteria. GESEP will set up new data access, together with the planned core repository, will link to already existing databases and will provide easy access through a web portal.

IODP-MSP expeditions (ECORD Science Operator, ESO), the IODP core repository in Bremen (BCR) and ICDP use the Drilling Informations System (DIS) from smartcube® GmbH. This working database is a highly flexible and scalable system which can be installed on a simple laptop as well as on a complex server-client system. An adapted version of the DIS will also be the database system for GESEP cores in the BCR as well as in the GESEP Repository in Berlin at the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR).

Scientific data extracted from GESEP cores should be published on an open access basis. Existing web based information systems can be used to publish scientific results. A sophisticated and accepted system is PANGAEA® Publishing Network for Geoscientific & Environmental Data.
